HiFiMan Launches the Susvara Unveiled, a $20,000 Planar Magnetic Flagship

· audio

HiFiMan has launched the Susvara Unveiled, a $19,999 open-back planar magnetic headphone that drops the protective back grille found on the original 2017 Susvara. The “Unveiled” name refers to the driver’s exposure: with no grille in the way, the company says the diaphragm can move more freely, with measurable improvements in transient response and soundstage depth.

Why it matters

The original Susvara has been HiFiMan’s flagship for nearly a decade and a reference headphone for reviewers worldwide. The Unveiled version is a statement product: it is not designed to sell in volume, but to anchor the brand at the top of the planar magnetic category as the market moves increasingly toward more affordable designs from Chinese specialists like Letshuoer and Truthear.

What is new

  • Fully exposed planar magnetic driver with no back grille, a first for any headphone in this price class.
  • Nanometer-thickness diaphragm, thinner than the original Susvara by a factor of two.
  • New ear pad geometry borrowed from the HE1000 Unveiled, with improved clamping force distribution.
  • A 10-year warranty on the driver, reflecting HiFiMan’s confidence in the long-term reliability of the new design.

The Susvara Unveiled is being made in a limited run of 500 units per year, sold direct from HiFiMan and a handful of authorized dealers in the US, Europe, and Japan. HiFiMan is also offering a trade-in program for owners of the original Susvara who want to upgrade.
