Anta and Li-Ning are separate Chinese sportswear companies. Both are publicly traded in Hong Kong, but they follow different strategies. Anta operates a large multi-brand portfolio and invests in international groups, while Li-Ning concentrates primarily on the Li-Ning name across basketball, running, apparel, and other sports.
Neither company owns the other.

Who owns Anta and Li-Ning?
Anta is the consumer brand of Anta Sports Products Limited, which listed in Hong Kong in 2007. Co-founder Ding Shizhong remains chairman, and the founding family remains influential through disclosed shareholdings and management roles.
Li-Ning is operated by Li Ning Company Limited, which listed in Hong Kong in 2004. Founder Li Ning remains executive chairman and joint chief executive officer.
Both companies have public shareholders. Describing either business as entirely owned by its founder would be inaccurate.
Their brand strategies are different
Anta’s investor materials present a portfolio spanning the Anta brand, FILA operations in Greater China, Descente, Kolon Sport, Maia Active, Jack Wolfskin, and investments or ventures involving Amer Sports and Musinsa.
Li-Ning describes a single-brand, multi-category, diversified-channel strategy. It also participates in businesses involving Double Happiness, AIGLE, and Kason through ownership, licensing, joint ventures, or associates, but the Li-Ning name remains the center of the group.

Which company has the stronger basketball presence?
Both have current, high-profile programs.
Anta’s official basketball range includes Kyrie Irving’s KAI series and Klay Thompson’s KT series. Anta announced a lifetime partnership with Thompson in February 2026.
Li-Ning announced a long-term partnership with Stephen Curry and Curry Brand in June 2026. Its basketball history also includes Way of Wade and Jimmy Butler products.
The athlete list does not determine which shoe is better. Fit, traction, cushioning, support, durability, and regional availability must be compared at the model level.
Which company is more international?
The answer changes depending on the metric.
Anta has the larger international corporate portfolio. It is the largest shareholder of Amer Sports, the group behind Arc’teryx, Salomon, Wilson, Peak Performance, and Atomic. Anta also agreed to acquire a 29.06 percent stake in Puma.
Li-Ning has a more concentrated brand identity. Its Curry Brand partnership creates a major international basketball platform, but its overseas retail availability still varies considerably by country.
International ownership, global brand recognition, and the ability to buy a specific shoe locally are three different measures.
Which brand should a buyer choose?
Start with the exact activity and product:
- compare Anta and Li-Ning basketball shoes only within the same player role and price range;
- compare running models by intended use rather than brand-wide reputation;
- check official regional size charts;
- confirm returns and warranty before importing;
- use independent model-level tests for performance conclusions.
A company-level comparison can explain ownership and product strategy, but it cannot replace a shoe-level comparison.
