Xiaomi's YU7 Lands as a Direct Shot at the Tesla Model Y
· automotive
Six months after the SU7 sedan, Xiaomi has launched its second electric vehicle: the YU7, a mid-size SUV positioned directly against the Tesla Model Y. The YU7 uses the same 800-volt platform as the SU7 and comes in single-motor and dual-motor configurations. HyperOS runs the cabin across all YU7 trims, with a 16.1-inch center screen and an optional rear entertainment display.
Why it matters
The SU7 quickly became a top seller in China’s premium sedan segment, with monthly deliveries crossing 20,000 units in late 2025. The YU7 is the follow-up: same platform, same software, larger body, family-friendly packaging. The pricing starts at 253,500 CNY, undercutting the Model Y in China by a meaningful margin. Xiaomi has the manufacturing scale through its Beijing factory, and the brand’s existing fan base gives it a marketing advantage most EV startups do not have.
