Soundcore Liberty 5 Bring Planar Magnetic Drivers to True Wireless Earbuds

· audio

Soundcore has launched the Liberty 5, a true wireless earbud that uses a planar magnetic driver, a technology previously confined to wired IEMs and full-size headphones. The Liberty 5 is also one of the first TWS earbuds to support LDAC and aptX Lossless at the same time, with adaptive active noise cancellation that Soundcore says adjusts every 0.2 seconds based on environmental noise.

Why it matters

Anker’s Soundcore sub-brand has been one of the most aggressive Chinese brands in the true wireless market, often undercutting Sony, Bose, and Apple on price while matching or beating them on specs. The Liberty 5 is the first time Soundcore has shipped a planar magnetic TWS, and it lands at $149, well below the $299 most planar magnetic IEMs sold for just three years ago.

What is new

  • 11mm planar magnetic driver, a first for a Soundcore TWS earbud.
  • LDAC and aptX Lossless support, plus the standard AAC and SBC codecs.
  • Adaptive ANC with four microphones per earbud, claimed to reduce ambient noise by up to 45 dB.
  • 9 hours of battery life with ANC on, 32 hours total with the charging case.

The Liberty 5 is available now in black, white, and a new midnight blue finish, sold through Amazon, Anker’s online store, and Best Buy in the US. A version with wireless charging is available for $20 more.
