Edifier's STAX Spirit S300 Brings Planar Magnetic Drivers to the Bluetooth TWS Format

Edifier has launched the STAX Spirit S300, a Bluetooth TWS earbud that uses a planar magnetic driver. The format has been the preserve of wired audiophile IEMs until now, because planar drivers are larger and heavier than conventional dynamic or balanced armature drivers. The S300 is possible because of a new generation of smaller planar drivers co-developed with Edifier’s STAX subsidiary in Japan.
Why it matters
The TWS category has been a race to the bottom on price for several years. The S300 is the opposite bet: a premium audiophile TWS earbud with planar magnetic drivers, a 24-bit wireless audio codec, and a 1,500 CNY price tag. It is the most direct challenge yet to wired audiophile IEMs from a Chinese audio brand, and it positions Edifier’s STAX sub-brand as a serious player in the global audiophile market.
