Aputure Expands the STORM Line With the 80c and 1000c Tunable Fixtures

· outdoor-gear

Aputure announced the STORM 80c and STORM 1000c tunable color point-source fixtures in November 2024, extending the STORM family with Newsshooter coverage on 2024-11-19. The two lights join the STORM 1200x and the original STORM entry as part of Aputure’s higher-wattage professional cinema line.

A small and a large tunable fixture

The STORM 80c is the smaller of the two, a compact tunable color point-source aimed at indie film and documentary work where a single 80W unit can replace a small HMI. The STORM 1000c is a much larger 1000W tunable fixture aimed at narrative productions and large sets, with a comparable output to a 2K tungsten or a 1.8K HMI.

Both lights use Aputure’s tunable color engine, which sets them apart from the older Light Storm and Amaran lines that offer fixed daylight or bi-color only. The STORM family is now the part of the Aputure catalog that competes directly with ARRI SkyPanel and Digital Sputnik at the high end.

Why it matters

Aputure built its name on the Light Storm and Amaran series for the YouTube and indie film market. The STORM 80c and STORM 1000c push the brand into higher-budget narrative and commercial work, where it now sits in the same conversation as ARRI and Digital Sputnik. For buyers, the practical effect is that an Aputure STORM rig is now a credible choice on a film set where a SkyPanel would have been the default five years ago.
